Technologist

We are seeking a Technologist to support the assembly, maintenance, and operations of R&D test stands and pilot plants. 

Responsibilities

  • Assembling, modifying, commissioning, operating, and troubleshooting of chemical process equipment such as reactors, pumps, filters, heaters, etc.
  • Set up and conduct test stand and pilot experiments, tests, and analyses.
  • Assist engineers and scientists in the design and modification of processing test stands and pilot plants.
  • Work effectively in a team environment with other technologists, scientists, and engineers.

Qualifications

  • Chemical Engineering Technologist or similar diploma.
  • 4 – 8 years of experience as a Chemical Engineering or similar role Technologist.
  • Experience in mechanical set up, maintenance, modification, and operation of various pilot scale chemical process equipment. Some of this equipment should include - reactors, pumps, filters, heaters, exchangers, and piping/tubing systems. It would be an asset if this experience is also focused on research and development of chemical processes.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs for the purposes of assembly, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of smaller bore compression style fittings, tubing, and piping systems.
  • Experience in monitoring pilot scale operations, recording observations, and collecting chemical samples.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with process instrumentation wiring and troubleshooting is required. Further experience with control systems (PLC) and related low voltage wiring will be a very valuable asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and generate simple sketches to communicate assembly of components and mechanical tie-ins.
  • Experience with, and/or strong aptitude for using light-industrial workshop equipment.
  • Experience in writing standard operating procedures for plant operation.
  • Aptitude for attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, as well as proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with other technical staff.
  • A working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Office suite. Experience with SolidWorks and CAD would be an asset.
  • Capability to interpret test data to troubleshoot and optimize operations would be an asset.

Compensation:

Dependent upon experience, $66,000 - $84,000 plus vacation and access to company health plan.

Engineering Co-op

Competencies Required:

  • Chemical or mechanical engineering student who has completed at least 2 years of an engineering program
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills, with ability to adapt to change
  • High level of initiative and enthusiastic to learn more about engineering R&D work
  • Good time management, with the ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Able to lift at least 25lb
  • Chemical laboratory experience an asset
  • Minor construction / hands-on experience an asset

Salary: $3,000 - $4,000 per month
