Risk Reduction Through Intelligent Experimentation

We focus on the problem that needs to be solved by starting with the questions that need to be answered. Depending on the challenge, that may mean diving into literature, developing an analytical method, investigating reaction chemistry, building a small-scale experimental setup with an analog system, reproducing part of a commercial process at bench scale, or designing and operating a purpose-built pilot system. The objective is to solve your challenge by developing an understanding of the problem, determining the data needed to formulate the solution, and generating that data at the right scale.

This approach requires flexibility. Novel processes rarely behave exactly as expected, established processes often face new variables and challenges. Requirements often change as new data is generated. AGEIAS designs experiments, test stands, and pilot systems with that reality in mind — using modular, adaptable configurations that can be modified as the team learns, explores different operating conditions, or identifies a better way to approach the problem. AGEIAS's current pilot and modular-system capabilities are specifically designed to support wide operating envelopes and changing experimental requirements.

From Laboratory Development Through Pilot-Scale Testing

AGEIAS brings process development, laboratory testing, pilot-scale validation and engineering together under one roof. Our team can work from fundamental and applied R&D through lab-to-pilot scale-up, commercial-to-test-stand scale-down, process troubleshooting and the design and assembly of pilot and demonstration systems. That integrated capability allows us to stay with a problem as it evolves, rather than handing it from one specialist or organization to another at each stage.

Practicality is equally important. AGEIAS applies the level of engineering appropriate to the development stage: enough to operate safely, produce meaningful data and answer the technical question, without prematurely over engineering a final commercial solution. The aim is to learn while experimentation and change are still relatively fast and cost-effective, reduce the important technical uncertainties, and give clients better information before they make larger scale-up and capital decisions.

Your External Process-Development and Pilot Plant Team

This combination lets AGEIAS work across an unusually broad range of processes and project stages. The team has experience in thermochemical conversion, fluidization, specialty chemicals, electrochemical systems, biosynthesis, extractive metallurgy, hydrogen and syngas generation, pulp and paper, oil and gas, and other industrial processes — including work involving high temperatures and pressures and flammable, toxic, or corrosive materials.

That is what “one-stop shop” means at AGEIAS: not that every project follows the same path, but that the chemistry, testing, process development, engineering and physical systems needed to solve the problem can be brought together as required. Clients can bring AGEIAS a defined scope — or simply a difficult process problem — and the team can help determine the most practical way to investigate it, validate it and move it forward.
